The horror-comedy Stree 2 directed by Amar Kaushik and starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, is making a significant impact at the box office. On its 12th day, the film raked in an impressive ₹17 crore, bringing its total collection to ₹401.55 crore, according to a report by Sacnilk. The film is now inching closer to joining the prestigious ₹450-crore club.
On its second Monday (August 26), Stree 2 recorded a 29.02% occupancy in Hindi-speaking regions, showcasing its stronghold at the theaters. The film, which is a sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, also features Aparshakti Khurrana, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Vijay Raaz in key roles.
Bollywood trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his insights on the film’s performance. He noted that the Janmashtami festivities are likely to give the film’s earnings an additional boost.
Adarsh wrote, “BLOCKBUSTER SUNDAY – Stree 2 JOINS ₹400 CR CLUB… Stree 2 RUNS RIOT on [second] Sunday. Cinemas across India – from multiplexes to single screens – witness outstanding occupancy, driving the overall total to ₹400 crore. Urban centres are performing exceptionally well, but it’s the mass pockets that are truly in a league of their own. In fact, the Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets are witnessing this level of HYSTERIA after a long time.”
He further broke down the film’s second-weekend earnings: Friday saw collections of ₹19.30 crore, Saturday ₹33.80 crore, and Sunday ₹40.75 crore, bringing the total to ₹401.65 crore for India business. The film’s first-week collection was a substantial ₹307.80 crore, including Wednesday previews and a full-fledged release on Thursday. The second weekend alone added ₹93.85 crore to the total.
Stree 2 hit theaters on Independence Day (August 15) and faced stiff competition from John Abraham’s Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein. Despite the clash, Stree 2 has emerged as a box office juggernaut, continuing to draw crowds across the country.
As the film approaches the ₹450-crore milestone, its success is a testament to the growing popularity of genre-blending films in Bollywood, combining elements of horror and comedy to captivate audiences nationwide.
