Sanju Samson India’s wicketkeeper-batter, has struck an extraordinary vein of form, scoring back-to-back T20I hundreds, a first for any Indian player. In a powerful innings against South Africa in Durban, Samson hammered 107 off just 50 balls, following up on his 111 against Bangladesh last month. Reflecting on his career-high phase, Samson revealed the deep satisfaction he feels after a decade of striving for such moments.
During the innings break, Samson confessed his emotions: “If I think a lot, I will get emotional. I waited for this moment for 10 years. I’m very happy, grateful, and blessed. But I would like to keep my feet on the ground, be in the moment, and enjoy.”
With a renewed aggressive approach, Samson has been embracing a “high-risk, high-reward” game plan, focusing on team needs over personal milestones. His intent to play aggressively from the start has paid off, delivering him runs and making him a critical player in India’s T20 lineup.
“Really enjoyed my time out there in the middle,” Samson said after receiving the Player of the Match award. “I made maximum use of my current form, you could say. Once you play three-four balls, you are looking for the boundary.”
Skipper Suryakumar Yadav praised Samson’s dedication and growth, emphasizing the hard work and patience that the Kerala cricketer has shown over the years. “The amount of hard work he has done in the last 10 years, doing the boring work, he is eating the fruits of that,” Suryakumar said. “He was in the 90s but still looked for a boundary, which shows the character of the man.”
Samson’s journey, filled with years of perseverance, appears to have reached a triumphant stage, setting high expectations for his future performances.
