The Dutch media authority has issued a five-year broadcast license to Russian independent TV station TV Rain after its license in Latvia was revoked, according to a statement on the regulator’s website.
The regulator said Dec. 22 permit “will provide a commercial television broadcasting service as a commercial media institution, It was not immediately clear when the statement was released”.
Latvia revoked TV Rain’s license in early December after the company was labeled a threat to national security. Liberal-leaning TV Rain, or Dozhd, moved to broadcast from Latvia and other countries in July after being forced to close its Moscow studio following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
