A 50-year-old Russian working as the chief engineer of a ship docked at Paradip port in Urina was found dead on Tuesday, even as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigates the mysterious deaths of two other Russians, including a multi-millionaire state last month.
Paradip Port Trust chairman PL Haranadh said the ship’s master had informed them that Sergey Milyakov, the chief engineer, had died of a heart attack. “The body is being sent for autopsy. His family will be informed,” Haranadh said. He refused to comment further on the ship and other crew members.
Milyakov died 10 days after two Russian nationals died under mysterious circumstances within two days at a hotel in Orissa’s Rayagada district. Four Russian nationals checked into the hotel on December 21. Vladimir Bidenov (61) reportedly died of cardiac arrest a day later. On December 24, Pavel Antov was reported to have fallen from the terrace of a two-story hotel. His autopsy showed he died of internal injuries. Biden’s autopsy showed he died of a heart attack. On Monday, the CID confiscated Antova’s smartphone, laptop and passport. She had previously taken samples from the ashes and remains of two Russians who had been cremated. The cremation caused controversy because both were Christians.
A CID official said they may seek Interpol’s help in investigating Pavlo’s death. Investigators questioned Assistant Sub-Inspector SK Singh, who was the first to visit the hotel after Biden’s death, and three ambulance drivers. The National Human Rights Commission has also asked the Rayagada Superintendent of Police for a report on the deaths.
