The RSS on Friday changed its social media profile pictures to the national flag, responding to Prime Minister Modi’s call ahead of India’s 75th Independence Day. The RSS had earlier criticized the policy regarding its photos on social media after the Congress attacked the RSS for not heeding PM Modi’s call for his “opposition to the Indian national flag for 52 years”. Taking a dig at the RSS, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said those who are raising ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ slogans today are from an “anti-national” organization that refused to hoist the tricolor for 52 years.
Hitting back at the attack from the Congress, the RSS had earlier said that they have already extended support to the Har Ghar Tiranga and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programs and are in the process of deliberating over the social media photos. “This is a process. Let’s deal with it in our own way. We are thinking about how to celebrate it. On Friday, the social media photos were changed and the organization’s publicity department said the workers were actively participating in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The RSS on Saturday also released a compilation of videos of Mohan Bhagwat and other RSS leaders hoisting the national flag.
After the change in the social media photos of the RSS accounts, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that the “sheep” RSS finally changed the photos after a week of immense pressure. While all the BJP leaders changed their social media photos to photos of the national flag on PM Modi’s call, the Congress leaders chose a different photo – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru waving the national flag. He criticized the BJP and said that Rahul Gandhi should allow party members to use their photos with the tricolor.
