The restoration of the film is a masterpiece: Shivendra Singh Dungarpur at MIFF Masterclass

The restoration of the film is as artistic as the making of a film as the revivalist must use the eye and mind of the artist to ensure the restoration is credible to the vision of the original creator, said award-winning filmmaker, historian and revivalist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur on stage. next to the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) today. Speaking to the masterpiece ‘The Art and Behavior of Film Recovery’ Shri Dungarpur said, “Restoration does not only involve the repair of physical injury or deterioration of a film, but also takes into account the original creator’s intent, artistic integrity, accuracy and deterioration of the end of the film. ”He highlighted the five most important aspects of the savings process, which include acquisition, preservation, repetition, restoration and accessibility.

“In India we view film as a business and not a place of art. That is the basic teaching on which the restoration process is based. This is one of the reasons why we have lost so many antiquities such as India’s first talkie, ‘AlamAra’ and the first color film ‘KisanKanya’ among others ”, celebrated Shri Dungarpur.

He also discussed the difference between a mass digitization system and quality restoration. His interview covers the entire recovery process from research and acquisition of priorities to the restoration of performance and efficiency of the output and life after the death of the restored film. He has represented high-profile restoration lessons including Kalpana by Uday Shankar, Appya Trilogy by Satyajit Ray restored to the worst of burns and Aravindan’sThamp, which was the first international show at the Cannes Film festival, 2022.

Shivendra Singh Dungarpur is an Indian filmmaker, producer, filmmaker and award-winning producer with his films “Celluloid Man”, “The Immortals” and “Czech Mate – In Search of Jirí Menzel”. He founded Dungarpur Films in 2001 and founded the Film Heritage Foundation in 2014. In 2012, he won two National Film Awards for his documentary Celluloid Man, based on the life of a famous filmmaker, curator and founder of the National Film Archive of India, P.K. Nair.
