Hyderabad— Ramoji Rao the influential media baron and founder of Eenadu and Ramoji Film City, passed away on Saturday morning in Hyderabad. According to reports from news agency ANI, Rao was undergoing treatment at a local hospital when he breathed his last at 3:45 am.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to Rao’s family, friends, and admirers, describing Rao as a visionary who transformed the landscape of Indian media. “The passing away of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films,” the Prime Minister tweeted, sharing a photograph of himself with Rao.
“Ramoji Rao Garu was extremely passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have got several opportunities to interact with him and benefit from his wisdom. Condolences to his family, friends, and countless admirers during this difficult time. Om Shanti,” added Modi.
Born on November 16, 1936, Ramoji Rao was not only a businessman but also a pioneering media entrepreneur and film producer. He headed the Ramoji Group, which encompassed a diverse array of ventures including the world’s largest film production facility, Ramoji Film City; the widely-read Eenadu newspaper; the ETV Network of television channels; and the film production company Usha Kiran Movies.
Rao’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond media and entertainment. His business empire included Margadarsi Chit Fund, Dolphin Group of hotels, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors. Each of these ventures showcased his ability to innovate and set new standards across various industries.
Ramoji Rao’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian media and entertainment. His legacy of innovation, excellence, and passion for development will continue to inspire future generations.
