Tamil cinema’s superstar Rajinikanth is all set to make waves with his much-anticipated action drama Vettaiyan, which has already created a frenzy among fans. The film, set to release on October 10, 2024, has surpassed the ticket sales of The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), a blockbuster by another Tamil icon, Thalapathy Vijay, on the popular platform BookMyShow.
As of now, Vettaiyan has witnessed a remarkable 54% increase in ticket bookings compared to GOAT, with over 1.40 lakh tickets sold. This surge in interest puts Vettaiyan ahead of not just GOAT, but also other major releases like Indian 2 and Raayan. With only a day left before the grand release, Rajinikanth’s massive fan base continues to drive up ticket sales, ensuring a stellar opening for the film.
Adding to the buzz are reports about the star-studded cast and their remunerations, with Rajinikanth reportedly receiving a whopping ₹100-125 crore for his role. Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who also plays a key role in the film, is said to have been paid ₹7 crore. Other notable actors in the ensemble include Fahadh Faasil (₹2-4 crore), Rana Daggubati (₹5 crore), and Manju Warrier (₹85 lakh). Ritika Singh has received ₹25 lakh for her role, while Dushara Vijayan, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini also feature in the cast.
Vettaiyan, produced by Lyca Productions, is an action-packed crime drama that pits Rajinikanth’s character, an encounter specialist, against Amitabh Bachchan’s Officer Sathyadev, a man who despises such methods. The prevue of the film, released on September 20, has garnered over 11 million views, further boosting anticipation. The preview offers a glimpse into the intense rivalry between the two leads, promising a gripping storyline filled with tension and conflict.
