In a series of tweets, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari said that in support of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Gati Shakti, the Rail-cum-Road Bridge project over the Brahmaputra River near the existing Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati has been approved at a cost of Rs. 996.75 crores to be shared by NHAI and the Ministry of Railways.
He said the cost of approaches/viaducts Rs. 322 crore will be completely constructed by NHAI. Shri Gadkari said that the bridge will connect the north bank of Assam with the south bank ie. Guwahati across the Brahmaputra River. Once completed, the bridge will provide seamless and strategic connectivity across the river with heavy traffic of more than 75,000 units of passenger cars at present, he added.
