Congress President Rahul Gandhi started the 3570 km long padyatra from Agasteeswaram in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on Thursday morning. The yatra began with Rahul hoisting the flag at the camp of Bharat Yatris who will go with him. Later, he met the family of NEET aspirant Anitha, who died by suicide, and expressed his condolences.
On Wednesday, Gandhi attacked the ruling party, saying the tricolor was under attack by the BJP and RSS, which are dividing India along religion and language, and urged people to defend the ideas and values behind the flag. He said that every institution in the country is under attack and alleged that the BJP considers the tricolor as its personal property. He claimed that India was facing its worst economic crisis in history along with the highest unemployment rate ever and the country was headed for disaster.
Rahul along with 118 yatris plan to complete their ambitious journey in Srinagar by early February next year. The Bharat Jodo Yatra will pass through 12 states and two Union Territories over the next 150 days.
