Prohibitory Orders Enforced in Prayagraj Till February 28 Amid Maha Kumbh and Festivities

In light of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 and a series of festivals and competitive examinations, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, has invoked prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The measures aim to prevent any law and order disruptions in the district and will remain effective from January 16 to February 28.
The ACP’s official communication highlighted the convergence of major events, including Mahakumbh 2025, Amrit Snan, Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Sant Ravidas Jayanti, Maghi Purnima, Valentine’s Day, Shab-e-Barat, and Mahashivratri. In addition to these festivities, several competitive examinations are scheduled, heightening the need for stringent security measures.

“In view of the communal sensitivity of the district and information from reliable sources, there is a possibility of anti-social elements attempting to disrupt peace,” the ACP stated.

The prohibitory order has been implemented to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the events. According to the statement, maintaining peace and preventing disturbances caused by anti-social elements are of paramount importance.

“There is sufficient reason for the one-sided order passed without prior notice to the concerned parties,” the order emphasized.

Security Measures During Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh Mela, a massive religious gathering attracting millions, requires meticulous planning to manage crowds, traffic, and potential risks. With several other cultural and religious festivals coinciding, authorities have reinforced measures to maintain public order.
The enforcement covers the entire Commissionerate of Prayagraj, restricting any activity deemed likely to disturb public peace. The decision underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment during one of the busiest periods for the city.

The Maha Kumbh, celebrated every 12 years, not only holds spiritual significance but also poses logistical challenges. The additional security provisions reflect the district’s preparedness to manage the influx of pilgrims while safeguarding communal harmony
