Five army personnel were killed after terrorists ambushed their vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch area, taking advantage of heavy rains and low visibility, another soldier was seriously injured in the incident and was immediately evacuated to an army hospital in Rajouri.
“Today, at approximately 1500 hours, one army vehicle, moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in Rajouri sector, was torched by unidentified terrorists who took advantage of heavy rains and low visibility in the area. The vehicle caught fire due to the probable use of grenades by terrorists,” it said headquarters of the Northern Command in a statement.
It said the five deceased personnel belonged to the Rashtriya Rifles Unit and were deployed for anti-terror operations in the area. Operations are underway to nab the perpetrators, the statement said, and further details are being ascertained.
Earlier, a defense spokesman from Jammu said the soldiers were killed after their vehicle caught fire while moving from Bhimber Gali to Sangiot in Poonch. Army and police personnel have rushed to the spot, which is 90 kilometers from Poonch.
