Eclectic Mix of Books and Culture at INDIA PAVILION at the Paris Book Festival 2022

The Paris Book Festival saw a wide and varied range of literary and cultural works in the India Pavilion. India was a guest of honor at the Paris Book Festival.

Day 1 began with a cultural program called ‘Morning Ragas – Melodies of India’ by the late singer Aparna Shreedhar followed by a talk on Children’s Communication Culture through Translation. Led by Prof Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, NBT and panel editors Shri Yuvraj Malik, Shri Suddhasattwa Basu, Ms. Gaelle Benacchio, Smt Sudha Murty, Ms. Valerie Goudart, the discussion focused on ten Indian children’s books published by NBT-India translated into French. The session was moderated by Shri Kumar Vikram, Senior Editor of NBT.

In the second half of the day, panel editors Smt Sudha Murty, Shri E.N. Nandakumar, Shri Chamu Krishna Shastri, Mr. Daniel Negers discussed the multilingualism and multiculturalism that Indian society offers the author. The session was moderated by Shri Sudeep Nagarkar.

The next session focused on female writers and their Creative Sphere where Ms. Alka Saraogi, Ms. Kumud Sharma and Ms. Kathleen Scarboro talked about creative work being done and issues affecting women writers. These two poems, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, are these two. pillars of Indian civilization and have been giving the audience a new understanding and understanding of human life.

The session ‘Mahatma Gandhi and Romain Rolland: A 21st Century Perspective’ with two prominent editors Shri Vijay Singh and Ms. Christine Jordis, who spent her life as a cultural and literary bridge between India and France, embraced some of the exchanges of ideas between India and France. Day 2 of the India Pavilion at the Paris Book Festival 2022 began with a cultural program called ‘Morning Ragas – Journey to Divine’ by Carnatic artist Ms Bhavana Pradyumna. The session also saw the launch of LE COEUR BATTANT DU RAJASTHAN – Rahis Bharti et Dhoad (Rajasthan – Rahis Bharti – DHOAD) by Martine le Coz in French. Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, of NBT, India has issued a letter.

The following was a session on ‘Social Media as ChangeAgent’ in which editors Shri Gourahari Das, Shri Siddhartha Shankar Gautam, Shri Binay Kumar Singh and Ms Bhavna Pradyumna discussed the role of social media.

Celebrating 75 years of Indian glory, the next session India @ 75 and Vision of New India spoke of India’s achievements as a modern independent nation, with a vision of New India. The tone of the session was interrupted by a special note by the Honorary Ambassador of India Shri Jawed Ashraf. A culture of debate, plurality and diversity of ideas. The session was led by Prof. Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, NBT.

Day 3 kicked off with Ms Sharmila Sharma’s Kathak dance. A session was followed by Sri Aurobindo and his contemporary philosophy with panel editors Shri Anand Neelakanthan, Shri Kiran Vyas and Mr. Olivier Pironneau. The session was moderated by Shri Vikram Sampath.

The following session, Literary Diversity: India and France Perspectives, discussed how the literature of both cultures shared common ideas and valued social diversity. The session featured Shri Rajesh Kumar Vyas, Shri Jitendra Kumar Soni, Shri Sudeep Nagarkar and Ms. Gaelle Benacchio and Ms. Kumud Sharma as president.

The following was a talk on Science and Ayurveda in which Acharya Balkrishna discussed the integration of traditional knowledge systems such as Ayurveda with modern scientific evidence-based medicine, followed by a panel discussion on the Indian Knowledge System: What It Gives to the World and panel editors Prof Sharma Govind Pr. NBT, Acharya Balkrishnan, Shri Chamu Shastry and Shri Yuvraj Malik Director of NBT. The French edition of the book ‘Science of Ayurveda’ by Acharya Balakrishna was also presented at the India Pavilion by Prof Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman, National Book Trust, India.

In an interview entitled ‘Rivers as Cultural Carriers’, panel editors Acharya Balkrishnan and Mr Olivier Germain Thomas discussed Ganga’s role as an important cultural agent. The Present ‘is organized by Shri Vikram Sampath, Shri Siddhartha Shankar Gautam and Mr. Douglas Gressieux, presided over by Shri Binay Kumar Singh.

India Pavilion designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (NID), Design Partners of NBT-India at the event, represented the works of 65 Indian publishers with more than 15 digital and physical exhibitions featuring more than 400 publications. in various Indian languages.
