Pakistan Ends T20 World Cup 2024 with Three-Wicket Win Over Ireland Despite Struggles in Group Stage

Pakistan ended the T20 World Cup 2024 with a three-wicket win over Ireland. Despite a triumphant end to a memorable campaign for the 2009 champions, Pakistan took just 19 overs to chase down the target of 107 in Lauderhill. Ireland batted first and were reduced to 32/6 in the seventh over. Gareth Delaney and Josh Little then took Ireland to three figures. Little and Ben’s last-wicket partnership managed to survive six overs and Ireland won by 106/9.

Captain Babar Azam then chased down an unbeaten 32 off 34 balls as Pakistan reached 111/7 in 18.5 overs. “We didn’t think (Ireland) would get 106 runs and I didn’t think they would take 19 overs to chase down Pakistan,” former India batsman Virender Sehwag told.

Virender Sehwag  says “I don’t understand what Pakistan did here. Yes, they won, but first they conceded 32/6 for 106, then it didn’t seem like a very difficult wicket or because our Irish bowling was so good that they had to play very carefully in the chase. “

“This team can’t even get a good ticket.”

Pakistan’s campaign was a total failure. They started with a shocking loss to fellow USA in a match that went to Super Over. Pakistan then looked to have a huge lead in their next match against rivals India, but lost by six wickets. Then the USA game against Ireland was eliminated after being washed out.

Sehwag said that problems inside the dressing room led to poor performances on the field, but said he was not aware of such problems in his team. “That’s why we say it’s unpredictable, if they play well or if they play bad, you never know. They’ve been mostly bad in this World Cup. I don’t know what’s going on in the dressing room. If the situation is good between players, it is also important.

Sehwag also says “If there are players who don’t like the captain or if there are two or three groups in the dressing room, that also plays a role, but I say you have to put those things aside and think for Pakistan. This game should not take this long. But , at least they won”.

Sehwag said that Pakistan should look for batsmen who can hit well, unlike batsmen who have more wins like Babar and Mohammad Rizwan. “Now Babar Azam and others have to step back and think how to move forward in the T20 format. “This team cannot win matches against good teams even if they get good tickets,” he said.

“If they want to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup, they need to play a different game than what Babar Azam is playing. There are consistent batsmen who are not good enough for T20. Be it from PSL or domestic cricket, we need to find top batsmen. It players should be given a chance. Unlike his first day debut, Babar has found time for consistent performances. So you have to give time to others,” Sehwag said.
