Five Pakistani Taliban terrorists killed in an attack on a police station in the city of Karachi

Five heavily armed Tehreek-e-Taliban (Pakistan) militants were killed after security forces managed to regain control of the Karachi police chief’s headquarters building, which was the target of a daring attack by militants in the country’s most populous country. city.

The nearly four-hour operation to regain control of the five-storey building ended dramatically around 10.50pm when four more people, including two police constables, a ranger and a civilian, were killed in a heavy firefight. occurred between TTP militants and security forces.

A senior security source said five terrorists were killed in the operation. He said three were killed in a prolonged gunfight while two blew themselves up, which also caused some damage to one floor of the building.

Sindh government spokesman Murtaza Wahab said on Twitter that he can confirm that the Karachi Police Office (KPO) building has been cleared. “Three terrorists have been neutralized, four other people including two policemen, guards and a civilian were killed while 17 others were admitted to hospital with injuries ” he said.

Terrorists attacked and enter in building

There are conflicting reports on the number of terrorists who attacked and entered the building, but police sources put the number down to eight.

Senior police says “A clear picture will be known tomorrow as thorough combing and cleaning will be done in the building after taking control, But the identification process is still ongoing, it will take some time before we can say exactly how many terrorists attacked the building”.

Senior police official DIG South Irfan Baloch said they also found two cars with their doors open, one at the back entrance of the building and one at the front in which the terrorists came at around 7:10 pm on Friday,” he said. Baloch said the bomb disposal unit combed both cars for explosive devices as well as suicide vests of the terrorists. “They came prepared for shutdown and had sophisticated weapons and explosives. They managed to get into the building wearing police uniforms.”

The attack is a matter of great concern and embarrassment to the provincial government, as the office of the Superintendent of Police, Karachi, and the Saddar Police Station are located on Shahrah-e-Faisal Main Road, which serves as Karachi’s main thoroughfare with a number of strategic facilities, including Pakistan’s Faisal Air Force Base – and five-star hotels in close proximity.

Overseas cricketers currently competing in the Pakistan Super League stay in these Karachi hotels to host matches on Saturdays and Sundays.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah says

But Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the PSL matches will not be affected by the incident.

A senior police official said that as soon as the terror attack took place, security was increased at the team hotels as well as at the National Stadium, where the matches take place.

Police closed Shahrah-e-Faisal Road, which connects downtown Karachi with the airport, during an operation to clear the building, but the road was reopened at midnight.

Since a ceasefire deal between the TTP and the government collapsed last November, terrorists have intensified attacks on security forces and facilities and even mosques and markets in various parts of the country, but Karachi has not witnessed any major incident for some time. .

The last major incident occurred in June 2020, when four gunmen from the banned insurgent group Baloch Liberation Army attacked the stock exchange in Karachi, killing three people, but were themselves killed when they unsuccessfully tried to enter the stock exchange premises.

The banned TTP, which claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack, has carried out daring terror attacks on security installations in Karachi in the past, most notably when it attacked the PNS Mehran base in 2011.

The attack and liquidation operation lasted 17 hours and ended with the death of 10 security personnel. Two US-made surveillance aircraft were also destroyed in the attack. In 2014, TTP also hit the old terminal of Jinnah International Airport, where 24 lives were lost and property damaged.
