The government banned PAFF, declares Let man an individual terrorist proxy of Jaish-e-Mohammed

The Center on Friday banned the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), the proxy of terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, for its involvement in terror acts in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere. The Union Home Ministry has also designated Lashkar-e-Taiba member Arbaz Ahmad Mir as an individual terrorist under the stringent Anti-Terrorism Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

In a notification, the Union Home Ministry said the PAFF regularly threatens security forces, political leaders and civilians working in Jammu and Kashmir from other states. The PAFF, along with other organizations, is involved in a proactive conspiracy both physically and on social media to carry out violent terrorist acts in Jammu and Kashmir and major cities in India, the agency said.

Along with other organizations, PAFF indulges in the radicalization of susceptible youth for recruitment and training in the handling of arms, ammunition and explosives. The group has also been involved in terrorism. She has committed and participated in various acts of terrorism in India, the Home Ministry said.

Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Central Government has declared PAFF as a prohibited organisation, the ministry said.

In a separate announcement, the Union Home Ministry said it has designated Arbaz Ahmad Mir, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir but is currently based in Pakistan and working for the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, as an individual terrorist. It said Mir was involved in the target killing and emerged as the main conspirator in the killing of teacher Rain Bala in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam a few months ago.

Mir was involved in coordinating terrorism in the Kashmir Valley and supporting terrorists by transporting illegal arms or ammunition or explosives across the border, the ministry said. The Central Government believes that Mir was involved in terrorism and is therefore exercising the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (1) of Section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 to designate him as an individual terrorist, the notification said.
