Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur met Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos here on Friday and discussed the country’s expanding creative economy. During their meeting, Thakur highlighted how India has emerged as a hub for content and post-production, fueled by Indian talent.
Anurag Thakur tweeted:
“Nice to meet you Mr. Ted Sarandosi @netflix, I wish you all the best in your new role! India has emerged as a talent-backed content and post-production hub; Our original content is dubbed globally. Look forward to the story of India and Indians spreading even further around the world”.
The two also discussed India’s regional content, which is among the most watched internationally.
In 2022, the central government ministry announced a partnership with Netflix to produce 25 short films on the inspirational stories of individuals and the freedom struggle under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava, which celebrated 75 years of India’s independence.
The first set of videos from the joint initiative called Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan was about women who made changes and the second set was about the freedom fighters of 1857 in the War of Independence.
