The Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution to scrap the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), urging the central government to allow state governments to conduct medical admissions based on class 12 marks. This move comes amidst a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2024 examination and the postponement of the NEET-PG 2024 examination. The resolution was introduced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and received support from several regional parties.
Meanwhile, the Parliament session has been marked by disruptions due to the opposition’s demand for a discussion on the NEET issue. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP MP and Union Health Minister JP Nadda stated that the government is ready to discuss the NEET issue after the current business is concluded.
However, the proceedings in both Houses have been repeatedly adjourned due to the ruckus created by the opposition, demanding an immediate discussion on NEET and alleged irregularities in exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Opposition leaders, including Congress’ Rahul Gandhi, have emphasized the importance of discussing the NEET issue, citing concerns for the youth. Congress MPs have moved adjournment motions in both Houses to address the alleged irregularities and the perceived failure of the NTA.
