Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a significant bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York on Monday, marking their second interaction within a month. During the talks, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to aiding efforts for a swift resolution to the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The meeting took place as part of Modi’s three-day US visit, which also included high-profile engagements such as the Quad Leaders’ Summit and his address at the UN’s Summit of the Future.
“Met President @ZelenskyyUa in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations. Reiterated India’s support for early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability,” PM Modi shared on X (formerly Twitter).
This follows Modi’s historic visit to Ukraine, where he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 1992. Both leaders expressed a shared interest in advancing ties, with plans to elevate their relationship from a comprehensive partnership to a strategic one in the future.
In addition to his meeting with President Zelensky, PM Modi also held bilateral talks with several global leaders across the three days. His packed schedule included addressing a large gathering of the Indian-American community in Long Island and attending the Quad Leaders’ Summit hosted by US President Joe Biden.
In a joint statement, the Quad leaders affirmed their commitment to international law and the principles of the UN Charter, emphasizing the importance of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
