Mob torches police booth at Bengal-Assam border

Guwahati: Following an incident, an angry mob set ablaze a police booth at the West Bengal-Assam border on Friday night, officials said. The incident took place at Bhanga Pakri, on the borders of the Alipurduar and Coochbehar districts of West Bengal, they said.

The naka checking booth at the border came under the jurisdiction of West Bengal police, added the officials. Following an accident in front of the booth, an angry mob first vandalised and then set it on fire, officials said.

A local youth has been reported to be involved in the accident. There is no official confirmation about the casualties. Also, in protest, the locals blocked the national highway connecting the two states, leading to sluggish traffic at the stretch.
