Mithali Raj has now played in six ODI World Cups, making her the 3rd cricketer to do so

Mithali Raj, India’s ODI captain, became the third player to play in six ODI World Cups (men’s and women’s combined). In the present Women’s World Cup in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, she accomplished the feat when India faced Pakistan.

Mithali Raj is the third cricketer in history to play in six ODI World Cups, behind Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Miandad. She has now played in six ODI World Cups, making her the first female cricketer to do so. Mithali debuted in the 2000 World Cup.

In the current match between India and Pakistan, India won the toss and elected to bat first. India defeated South Africa and the West Indies in their World Cup warm-up games.

Mithali Raj has represented India in all three forms of cricket: Test, One-Day International, and Twenty20. When she was barely 14, she was named to the probables for the 1997 Women’s Cricket World Cup, but she didn’t make the final roster. In 1999, she made her One Day International debut, scoring an undefeated 114 runs against Ireland in Milton Keynes.

In the 2001–02 season that was against South Africa in Lucknow, she made her Test debut. At the age of 19, she eclipsed Karen Rolton’s world record of 209* in her third Test, scoring a new best of 214 against England in the second and final Test at County Ground, Taunton, on 17 August 2002.

Mithali Raj was diagnosed with typhoid fever during the CricInfo Women’s World Cup in 2002, which severely hampered India’s success. In 2005, she guided them to their first World Cup final, in South Africa, where they were defeated by Australia.

Raj was nominated for the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for ICC Female Cricketer of the Decade, as well as the award for women’s ODI cricketer of the decade, in November 2020.

She was selected captain of India’s Test squad for a one-off match against England women’s cricket team in May 2021. She was selected India’s captain for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in January 2022.
