Assam Chief Minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma, while raising the issue of Mehrauli’s murder, this Sunday demanded severe laws against ‘Love Jihad’ or the conspiracy believed by many citizens that Muslim men target Hindu women for conversion to Islam by forceful means. This happened when the CM was campaigning for the municipal corporation polls in northeast Delhi in Ghonda during BJP’s Vijay Sankalp roadshow.
‘Love Jihad’ is very commonly used by the BJP and Hindu right-wing leaders, nowadays in order to mention unlawful religious conversions through seduction, feigning love, deception, kidnapping and marriage. This is often sometimes referred to as the demographic war by Muslims against India. As the country now has a law against triple talaq, Sarma said that India needs a law against Love Jihad too and a common civil code.
