India reiterated its continued support for denuclearization towards peace on the Korean Peninsula

At the United Nations on Saturday, India reiterated its continued support for denuclearization towards peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, saying it was in the “collective interest”. New Delhi has called for “dialogue and diplomacy” amid criticism of North Korea‘s latest ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) launch.

“In the past, we have expressed our concern over the recent launch of ballistic missiles by the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), and now we have noted reports of another ICBM launch on November 2. The Security Council has met,” Ruchira Kamboj, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, said in her speech.

“These launches are a violation of the Security Council Resolutions regarding the DPRK. They affect peace and security in the region and beyond. India calls for the full implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution regarding the DPRK. We would like to reiterate the proliferation of nuclear and missile technology regarding our region. Proliferation nuclear and missile technologies is a matter of concern and has an adverse impact on peace and security in the region, including India,” she added. he emphasized.

In a statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres also strongly criticized North Korea for the launch “as well as the firing of various missiles over the past two days.” He called on the North to “immediately desist from any further provocative actions and fully comply with its international obligations under all relevant Security Council resolutions”, calling for accelerated steps to ensure “sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula”. .

South Korea was reported on Friday to have kept the jets a secret after learning of the mobilization of 180 North Korean warplanes this week and Pyongyang’s record lightning missile tests, the news agency reported. The tension comes as Ukraine’s war – which began in February – continues with no end in sight. Meanwhile, the US and its allies are also clashing with China and Russia over the North’s missile launches. The US supports the South, while China and Russia blame the country for tensions.
