Government fixed a daily limit of 13,000 pilgrims with token system in Kedarnath

Kedarnath can see a maximum of 13,000 pilgrims a day when the annual pilgrimage to the Himalayan temple in Uttarakhand begins on April 25. The government has fixed a daily limit of 13,000 pilgrims for Kedarnath this time and a token system has also been introduced for the convenience of the pilgrims, Rudraprayag District Magistrate (DM) Mayur Dikshit said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Dikshit and Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishakha Ashok Bhadane, who reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming yatra, held a joint press conference. The daily limit on the number of pilgrims visiting the kedarnath temple and the introduction of a token system are meant for the smooth running of the yatra, Dikshit said.

Pilgrims will get better medical care this time with the deployment of 22 doctors and an equal number of pharmacists along the kedarnath yatra route. Among them will be three doctors and two orthopedic surgeons, Dikshit said. Twelve medical aid points were also set up along the route. Six ambulances were deployed along the route, three of which were kept in reserve, and the government also arranged for an air ambulance service in case of an emergency.

Daily limit of 13,000 pilgrims in Kedarnath

Sulabh International has been given the responsibility of keeping the yatra route clean, while Kedarnath Nagar Panchayat has been entrusted with the task of keeping the temple premises clean. Permanent toilets are being built by Sulabh International and a QR code system for plastic bottles and water bottles is being implemented for waste management.

Health examination of horses and mules is also done by animal husbandry department along the yatra route. Jal Sansthan has installed nine water purifiers from Sonprayag to Kedarnath Dham to provide clean drinking water to the pilgrims.

The DM said that 2,500 people would be accommodated in Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) guest houses from Guptkashi to Badi Lincholi. Besides, two 80-bed tent colonies are being set up at New Ghoda Padav and Himlok Colony in Kedarnath Dham to accommodate 1,600 people.

The SP said 450 policemen and staff have been deployed to conduct the yatra in an orderly manner and arrangements are being made for 150-200 policemen from outside the state. A lost and found center will also be run during the yatra. Along with this, sign boards in different languages ​​were prepared for the pilgrims from different states. Additional parking lots have been identified to deal with frequent traffic snarls during the pilgrimage, officials said.
