He added that India was recognized as one of the Tsunami Service Providers (TSP) under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC) and invited Germany to take advantage of the opportunity.
Dr. Jitendra Singh commented with satisfaction that India is working to assess the Risk of Tsunami (PTHA) in the Makran region through UNESCO-IOC and is funded by UNESCAP, of which German experts and institutions are part of the program.
To strengthen cooperation between MoES institutes and German scientific / research organizations, Dr. Jitendra Singh proposes to improve bilateral cooperation in the areas of the potential Tsunami Risk Assessment, Early Detection of tsunamis involving a ‘rare tsunami’ caused by landslides caused by landslides of land under the sea. earthquakes, Geodynamic modeling of submarine sediments and Crustal fluctuations using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data, Tectonic settings for depletion areas in the Indian Ocean (with particular emphasis on Makran Subduction Zone) ) and machine learning methods. , Capacity building activities to strengthen disaster preparedness and pre-disaster risk reduction programs such as Tsunami Ready, Co-operation in the long-term Arctic (Polar) observations & studies and Cooperation in the field of Gas Hydrates and underwater drills.
Regarding the two countries’ cooperation in Ocean Exploration, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that Blue Economy is an integral part of Vision New India and proposes joint ventures in areas such as Coastal Marine Spatial Spatial Planning and Tourism, marine fisheries, aquaculture, and fish processing, coastal and depth- marine mines and coastal power.
