A study conducted in Japan found that women are more likely than men to have side effects such as rashes after the first dose of ModernaInc’s (MRNA.O) COVID-19 vaccine.A survey of 5,893 participants between May and November last year showed that 22.4% of women developed a delayed skin reaction after the first shot, compared to 5.1% of men.
Symptoms were mild and could be considered a violation of mRNA-based vaccine, according to a June 1 report in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The delayed skin reaction, which occurred six days after or after the shooting, has been reported as a rare adverse event in the United States and Europe, according to the authors of Tokyo Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital.
But the incidence seems to be higher in Japan, they wrote, probably due to the high awareness of such symptoms in the country. Many opportunities among women may be due to weight differences and hormonal and environmental factors, they say.Moderna representatives in the United States and Japan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
