Japan’s Hamamatsu Photonics KK announced plans for a takeover205 million euros

Japan’s Hamamatsu Photonics KK said on Monday that Danish authorities have rejected a European subsidiary’s request to acquire Copenhagen-based fiber laser maker NKT Photonics A/S from NKT A/S.

Hamamatsu Photonics announced plans for a takeover last June for about 205 million euros ($226 million) to expand the application of its laser diode business based on compound semiconductor manufacturing technology. NKT Photonics’ lasers could be used to inspect high-end semiconductor devices, among other things, the company said.

“We are currently considering further steps in relation to the decision,” Hamamatsu Photonics said in a statement on Monday.

Authorities in Germany, Britain and the United States have approved the acquisition, he added. The Danish Trade Authority said the rejection was in line with Denmark’s Investment Screening Act.
