Union Minister Jal Shakti Revises Implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Rajasthan with 17 Members of Parliament and PHED Minister, Officials

Union Minister Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat held a review of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) today in Jaipur with 17 members of the Rajasthan MP (MP) and PHED officials to speed up the implementation of the missions. in the Province. Thanking all the Members of the Rajasthan Parliament for their active participation in the day-to-day review meeting, the Minister of Union, Jal Shakti thanked them for their concerns and important suggestions for improving the implementation of equipment and ensuring quality. Speaking on various Indian Government life-changing programs to improve the lives of the people especially the poor & neglected communities who ensure that ‘no one is left out’, he emphasized the importance of the Jal Jeevan Mission in a State like Rajasthan. Shri Shekhawat emphasized that community participation and empowerment are the lifeblood of a profession that will lead to its success. Therefore, the State should make every effort to involve the local community in the work of machinery from the preparation of the Village Operations Program (VAP). He called on the State Government to ensure the participation of all Members of Parliament in making the Jal Jeevan Mission a ‘Jan Andolan’, a people’s organization.

Shri Shekhawat urged all senior officials to prioritize the quality of work by ensuring regular inspections and taking steps to correct it. He confirmed that there would be no shortage of funding from the Government of India and extended all assistance to ensure that the State becomes a ‘HarGhar Jal’ in a timely manner. He also invited the Minister of State PHED and senior officials to come to him whenever necessary regarding the resolution of any problem related to the provision of drinking water in the State.

Finally, focus on developing drinking water sources so as not to disrupt household water supply. He emphasized on testing integration by integrating different schemes at the village level to sustain the source, viz. MGNREGS, 15 FC bound bonds, DMDF, etc.

In his remarks, the Minister, PHED, Rajasthan spoke of the challenge facing the State in ensuring the availability of sustainable tap water and the remoteness of a few residences called ‘dhaanis’, small in size. He further added that the State needs to improve the pace of service delivery while ensuring quality work.

Of the 105.69 lakh rural households in government, only 11.74 lakhs were provided with tap water in their homes during the launch of the machines in August, 2019, which has increased to 25.61 lakh HHs (24.23%) to date. About Rs. 11,000 Crore was allocated as a Central Government grant under the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2022-23. In addition, Rs. 1,774 Crore is available to the Government as the Fifteenth Financial Commission tied to RLB / PRIs for drinking water and sanitation. The state plans to provide tap water supply to 32.64 lakh rural communities by 2022-23, where the Annual Action Plan is approved by the Jal Shakti Department.

Members of Parliament shared their views and concerns about the progress of services in their constituencies, the level of work that needs urgent attention, the level of water supply that needs to be improved, regular water supply, community involvement especially Gram Panchayat / Village Water & Sanitation Committees. from planning, implementation and monitoring to ensuring quality of work, priorities for the sustainability of small resource sources, efficient water allocation for urban / major projects, etc. In addition, they highlight issues such as inequality. among the number of cities in the system compared to the stadium, the work has not yet begun in many cities, the completion of regional applications, rapid planning of inaccessible areas where individual tap connections seem very difficult especially in the desert areas of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Pali, etc.

Members of Parliament also urge the National Government to ensure the participation of all Members of Parliament from planning to monitoring to achieve the effective goal and quality in order to achieve the goal of this powerful program. It was also unanimously stated that all operating sites should have a display board in prominent areas that provides details of the water supply function including the cost estimate, no. of the tap connection to be provided, contact details of the vendor, PHED engineer, GP / VWSC chair, etc. It was also suggested that in both the handling and payment of the last building, a joint inspection was conducted by a third party agency and GP / VWSC representative. There was a need for livestock water supply as Rajasthan has the largest cattle herd in the country. They also stressed the need for the authorization of ‘HarGhar Jal’ villages by calling Gram Sabhas and decided that every village and community center in the village should be provided with tap water.

The Executive Secretary, PHED, Rajasthan thanked all the participants for their valuable suggestions and assured them that the State team will work with renewed energy and enthusiasm to ensure that all rural households in the Province are provided with tap water.
