Gaza City, October 19, 2024: At least 33 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza government’s media office, which is controlled by Hamas. The victims include 21 women, and authorities warn the death toll could rise to 50 as many people remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
The airstrike, which also left more than 85 injured some critically hit several homes in the crowded refugee camp. Gaza-based health officials said that the escalating violence has pushed the Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks to 42,500 since the conflict began.
The Israeli army has yet to comment on this particular airstrike. The bombardment is part of a broader Israeli military campaign aimed at retaliating against Hamas following the group’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. That incursion, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage, prompted the ongoing military offensive in Gaza.
The situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire, with increasing casualties and growing international concern over the humanitarian impact of the violence.
