In 2022, security forces of India achieved unprecedented success in Operation Octopus, Operation Double Bull

The Ministry of Home Affairs has fulfilled the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Left Wing Extremism Free India and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah’s Zero Tolerance Policy on Extremism and has reached the final stage of the decisive fight against Left Wing Extremism across the country. Security forces today achieved a decisive victory in the ongoing fight against left-wing extremism.

As a result of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s zero-tolerance policy against left-wing extremism, for the first time by entering the ‘Budhapahad’ on the border of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and the extremely inaccessible Chakrabandha and Bhimabandh areas of Bihar and successfully dislodging the Maoists from their strongholds, permanent security force camps have been set up . All these areas were strongholds of top Maoists and security forces found huge quantities of arms, ammunition, foreign grenades, aerial bombs and IEDs at these places.

A special strategy against left-wing extremism has been adopted since 2019. Coordinated efforts and campaigns by central and state security forces and allied forces have resulted in unprecedented success in the fight against left-wing extremism.

On this decisive achievement, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah congratulated the CRPF and State Security Forces and said that the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will continue the policy of zero tolerance against left-wing extremism and terrorism and this fight will be intensified.

In 2022, security forces achieved unprecedented success in Operation Octopus, Operation Double Bull, Operation Chakrabandha in the fight against left-wing extremists. 7 Maoists killed and 436 arrested/surrendered in Chhattisgarh/ 4 Maoists killed in Jharkhand and 120 arrested/surrendered. 36 Maoists arrested/extradited in Bihar. Similarly in Madhya Pradesh 3 Maoists were killed by security forces. This achievement becomes even more important as many of these slain Maoists had bounties on their heads running into crores and crores of rupees like Mithilesh Mahto had a bounty of Rs. 1 crore.

As a result of the Union Home Ministry’s efforts to expedite these operations, success was achieved in eliminating the security vacuum from Bihar. In Jharkhand and Odisha, success has been achieved to a large extent in eliminating the security vacuum and in these states the security vacuum will be completely filled by destroying the strongholds of left wing extremists. Following this strategy, there is an action plan to fill the security vacuum in other states. There is a steady decline in both the incidence of violence and its geographical spread. This campaign/struggle is reaching its final stage as evidenced by the fact that in 2022 compared to 2018 there was a 39% reduction in left-wing extremism-related violence, a 26% reduction in security casualties. forces, civilian casualties decreased by 44%, the number of districts reporting violence decreased by 24%, and the number of such districts decreased to just 39 in 2022.

Compared to the period before 2014, the number of cases of left-wing extremism violence decreased by 77 percent. Incidents of violence fell from a peak of 2,258 in 2009 to 509 in 2021. The death rate due to violence also fell by 85 percent. In 2010, the death toll peaked at 1,005, dropping to 147 in 2021, and their sphere of influence has shrunk significantly.
