India’s drive for clean energy and low-carbon energy security and efficient industrial growth

The Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav yesterday attended the G20 Joint Environment and Climate Ministers’ Meeting (JECMM) held in Bali, Indonesia. On the final day of the G20 meeting, the Union Minister emphasized the need to work together for stronger recovery and resilience across the globe, leaving no one behind, especially the most vulnerable sections of society. He reminded that this is the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Shri Yadav said that sustainable recovery should also lead to the Sustainable Development Goals. In his speech, he emphasized that although climate change is a global phenomenon, its negative effects are much more serious for the poor and vulnerable, especially in developing countries. There is a high dependence on natural resources, but the ability to cope with climate variability and extremes is limited. The phenomenon of climate change is deeply unjust. Those who have contributed the least from developing countries will be hit the hardest by the impact of global warming. Any initiative to address the current environmental problem should therefore be based on equality and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities in the light of national circumstances and priorities.

Minister Yadav informed the gathering that India will take over the G20 Chairmanship from December 1, 2022, culminating in the G20 Summit in 2023. As with the Indonesian Chairmanship, side events, workshops, seminars and site visits will be held in various cities in India. during the G20 presidency. Shri Yadav told the gathering that while addressing the World Leaders Summit at COP 26 in November 2021, our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi gave a new mantra for sustainable development i.e. LiFE-Lifestyle For Environment. LiFE as a global movement is needed today to move from mindless and destructive consumption to conscious and intentional use.

India’s drive for clean energy and low-carbon energy security and efficient industrial growth, sustainable agriculture and low-carbon living affirm our commitment to a transformative shift towards a sustainable lifestyle for all. We need to redefine prosperity to ensure affordable, sustainable and sustainable lifestyles for all. In conclusion, he emphasized that sustainability requires coordinated action for the global commons. India represents a ‘whole world’ approach that recognizes the interdependence of countries, economies and communities. In conclusion, Shri Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change extended a cordial and warm invitation to all G20 countries for the next meeting of representatives of Environment and Working Group on Climate Sustainability during India’s G20 Presidency.
