NDMA jointly organizing an all-India workshop on Integrated Early Warning System based on CAP

C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics), a premier research and development center of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, Government of India and (NDMA) National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India, is jointly organizing an all-India workshop on Integrated Early Warning System based on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) – here tomorrow, i.e. on 31 August 2022.The workshop aims to provide a platform to the concerned departments and various disaster management agencies across India to discuss their core issues and challenges and develop technological solutions to effectively address them amidst insightful discussions among a galaxy of experts and technologists.
Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, IAS, Minister of Home Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and Shri K. Rajaraman, IAS, Chairman, Digital Communication Commission and Secretary (Telecom), Government of India India will be the Guest of Honor . Various dignitaries and speakers from various ministries including NDMA, DoT, Indian Railways, Indian Metrological Department (IMD), Central Water Commission (CWC), Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Defense Geoinformatics Research Institute (DGRE), Workshop will be attended by Forest Survey of India (FSI), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Disaster Management Authorities (DMAs) of 36 States and Union Territories and will address various contemporary topics related to disaster management and preparedness.
About the integrated public warning system-सचेत
Integrated Public Alert System-सचेत, an early warning platform based on ITU Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), was developed by C-DOT for effective disaster management. The platform has been widely used by national and state disaster management authorities to disseminate alerts, advisories and other useful information to the masses in all available media during emergencies such as floods, cyclones and the Covid pandemic. It provides a converged platform to disseminate targeted alerts to people in vernacular languages via SMS.
As a one-stop solution and a concrete step towards the implementation of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s 10-point disaster risk reduction agenda, messages will soon be disseminated through all available communication media, including mobile broadcast, radio, television, sirens, social media, web. Portal and mobile application. The system is already operational in 34 states and UTs. The system has already sent more than 75 crores SMS during various calamities like Cyclones (Asani, Yass, Nivar, Amphan), Floods (Assam, Gujarat), Lightning (Bihar) etc. The system was also used to facilitate pilgrims during Amarnath Ji Yatra.
