Experts from India and the US collaborated in joint research project plans which implemented through Technological Innovation

Experts from India and the United States collaborated to present the best joint research project plans to be implemented through Technological Innovation (TIH) at the DST-NSF Joint Research and Development Projects Kick-off Workshop. The workshop was organized by IIT Delhi in collaboration with DST to discuss how the projects to be implemented by the six TIHs identified under NM-ICPS for collaborative research and development with NSF-supported institutions would utilize unique resources such as test environments and datasets available in India and the US are expanding collaboration on critical technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced wireless networks and supporting student and researcher exchange programs.

Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Senior Advisor, DST informed that a total of 35 joint projects have been identified to be implemented by Technology Innovation Centers (TIHs) and research institutions from the US. “This effort will further help us achieve joint research and development between the two countries in the field of CPS,” he added. The USA is our natural partner. Especially in science, we are traditionally partners, and through joint projects, the involvement will be deeper at the level of institutions, government and even at the level of people,” emphasized Dr. Gupta.

Six TIHs within the NM-ICPS have been identified for collaborative research and development with NSF-supported institutions. These projects aim to add a component of international cooperation to existing research projects in both countries. The hubs are part of DST’s five-year, nearly $430 million investment in the National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber and Physical Systems, involving academic researchers and industry partners.“The US is committed and proud to partner with India for prosperity and opportunity for all. These projects should be ambitious and able to solve societal problems,” NSF Director Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan.Prof. Rangan Banerjee, director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi), said the workshop will enable networking and build TIHs to address society’s challenges.

Promote innovation in new age technologies

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and National Science Foundation (NSF) have joined hands for joint research and development in September 2021 in thematic areas of Agriculture, Autonomous Systems Technology and Applications, Health and Environment, Rehabilitation and Assistive Robotics, and Smart cities covering various cyber-physical systems.

DST is setting up National Mission-Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS) with an outlay of Rs. 3,660.00 crore over five years to promote innovation in new age technologies. As part of the mission implementation, 25 Technology Innovation Institutes (TIHs) have been established in renowned institutions across the country in advanced technologies to create a solid foundation and seamless ecosystem for cyber-physical systems, a major platform for policy makers, researchers/innovators. , leading institutes, start-ups, entrepreneurs, investors, industries as well as global connections. The workshop was attended by Shri Sanjeev K Varshney, Head, International Corporation, DST; Dr. Ekta Kapoor, Division Head, FFT; Dr. JBV Reddy, Scientist F, DST; Dr. Kendra Sharp, Head of the Office of International Science and Engineering; Dr. Bridget Turaga, Program Director, O/o International Science & Engineering; Dr. Gurdip Singh, Director of the Computer and Network Systems Division along with representatives of TIHs and institutes from the US.
