ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Standings South Africa’s Series Win Bolsters Final Hopes

Following a powerful 2-0 series sweep over Bangladesh, South Africa moved up to fourth in the ICC World Test Championship standings, strengthening their position in the race to the 2025 final. As teams like India, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa battle for a place at the top, here’s an overview of each team’s status and possible outcomes:

1.India (62.82%): Despite leading the standings, recent home losses to New Zealand have left Rohit Sharma’s team with a slim margin for error. With crucial upcoming series against Australia, India must maintain a high winning rate to secure their place in the final.

2.Australia (Currently at 76.32% max): The reigning champions remain on course, but Pat Cummins’ side will need at least four wins from seven remaining matches to defend their title, especially given their challenging five-match series against India.

3.Sri Lanka (55.56%): Sri Lanka’s impressive win in England boosts their chances. With upcoming series against South Africa and Australia, they’ll need victories, particularly on South African soil, to stay in contention.

4.South Africa (54.17%): South Africa’s series win over Bangladesh gives them momentum, with four home matches remaining. Winning three out of four, especially in the pivotal series against Sri Lanka, would enhance their final prospects.

5.New Zealand (50%): The Black Caps’ historic series win in India keeps them in the race, but they’ll need to sweep both India and England at home to make a strong case for the final.

6.England (40.79%): Recent losses in Pakistan have ended England’s final chances, but they hope to finish on a high with their upcoming series in New Zealand.

7.Pakistan (33.33%): Despite a strong run with new coach Jason Gillespie, Pakistan is unlikely to reach the final due to a crowded standings leaderboard.

8.Bangladesh (27.50%): Their recent loss to South Africa leaves Bangladesh out of the final race, though they have two remaining Tests in which to improve their standing.

9.West Indies (18.52%): A difficult WTC cycle sees West Indies at the bottom, with limited chances to improve as they close out the campaign against Bangladesh and Pakistan.

With the competition intensifying, India, Australia, Sri Lanka, and South Africa remain the main contenders for the final spots, making every upcoming match crucial in the race to Lord’s.
