IBDC  accumulated more than 200 billion bases from 2,08,055 contributions from more than 50 research laboratories across India

Union Minister of State (Independent Body) Ministry of Science and Technology; Minister of State (Independent Representative) Ministry of Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Space and Atomic Energy, Dr Jitendra Singh dedicated India’s first National Life Sciences Data Repository – ‘Indian Biological Data Center’ (IBDC) in Faridabad, Haryana.

Dr. Speaking on the occasion, Jitendra Singh said that as per the BIOTECH-PRIDE guidelines of the Government of India, IBDC is mandated to archive all life sciences data generated from publicly funded research in India. With the support of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), it was established at the Regional Center for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad with a ‘Disaster Recovery’ data center at the National Information Center (NIC), Bhubaneshwar.

It has a data storage capacity of about 4 petabytes and houses the “Brahm” High Performance Computing (HPC) facility. Computing infrastructure at IBDC is also made available to researchers interested in performing computationally intensive analyses. Users can contact the data center by sending their queries to support@ibdc.rcb.res.in

Dr. Jitendra Singh informed that IBCC has started nucleotide data submission services through two data portals viz. “Indian Nucleotide Data Archive (INDA)” and “Indian Nucleotide Data Archive – Controlled Access (INDA-CA)” and has accumulated more than 200 billion bases from 2,08,055 contributions from more than 50 research laboratories across India.

It also hosts an online “Dashboard” for genomic surveillance data generated by INSACOG laboratories (https://inda.rcb.ac.in/insacog/statisticsinsacog). The dashboard provides customized data submission, access, data analysis services and real-time monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 variants across India. Data submission portals and access portals for other types of data are under development and will be launched in the near future. In principle, IBDC is committed to the spirit of data sharing according to the principles of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). The IBDC is developed in a modular fashion where different sections would typically deal with a particular type/s of life science data.

Computing infrastructure at IBDC is also made available to researchers interested in performing computationally intensive analyses. Users can contact the data center by sending their queries to support@ibdc.rcb.res.in. Further, IBDC conducts regular workshops and orientations (https://ibdc.rcb.res.in/news-and-announcement/) to assist users in submitting data. Video tutorials for submitting data to IBDC are also available on the data center website. The data center team can also be contacted at support@ibdc.rcb.res.in to schedule any workshop on data transmission/analysis.
