As the storm progressed northward, it rapidly intensified and made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on August 30, 2023, as a Category 3 hurricane.

This year, the NHC predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal hurricane season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season, and a 5% chance of a below-normal season. These predictions are based on extensive research and historical data from NOAA’s Hurricane Research Division.
