The world must find a way to return to the path of ceasefire and diplomacy in Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the G20 summit in Bali, citing the horrors of World War II.

1. “During the last century, the Second World War wreaked havoc on the world. The leaders of the time then made serious efforts to embark on the path of peace. Now it is our turn,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the global challenges of the Ukrainian war, climate change and the Covid pandemic and their impact on global supply chains. “All over the world there is a crisis of basic things, basic goods. The challenge for the poor citizens of every country is more serious,” he said.
6. “We should also not hesitate to admit that multilateral institutions like the UN have been unsuccessful on these issues. And we all have failed to make appropriate reforms in them. That is why today the world has greater expectations from the G-20,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted how India has ensured food security for its citizens as well as several other countries during Covid and highlighted the global fertilizer shortage. “Today’s fertilizer shortage is tomorrow’s food crisis for which the world will have no solution. We should build a mutual agreement to keep the supply chain of both fertilizer and food grains stable and secure.”
8. Talking about energy security, he said that India’s security on this front is important for global growth as it is the world’s fastest growing economy. “We must not enforce any restrictions on energy supply and stability in the energy market should be ensured,” he said.
9. “India is committed to clean energy and the environment. By 2030, half of our electricity will be generated from renewable sources. Time-bound and affordable finance and sustainable delivery of technology to developing countries are essential for an inclusive energy transformation,” the Prime Minister told the minister.
10. The Prime Minister said that during India’s chairmanship of the influential global bloc, efforts would be made to reach a global consensus on all these pressing issues.
