G20 countries strongly condemned terrorism, racism and intolerance in the name of religion

All G20 countries strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including those based on xenophobia, racism and other forms of intolerance or in the name of religion or belief, recognizing the commitment of all religions to peace, Abhay Thakur Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs says.

Speaking to reporters after the G20 meeting in Varanasi, he added: “Terrorism represents one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.”

Thakur shared details from a meeting of foreign ministers in New Delhi in March this year that during the Delhi meeting the G-20 countries unanimously said, “We strongly condemn all acts of terrorism against critical infrastructure, including critical energy facilities, and against other vulnerable targets”.

All acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomever they are committed. The senior official added that the nature and extent of links between terrorism and organized crime, including arms and drug trafficking, corruption, money laundering and other crimes that can support terrorism, vary by context and require effective criminal justice responses.

Efforts to increase the effectiveness of international cooperation should be strengthened to deny terrorist groups safe skies, freedom of operations, movement and recruitment, as well as financial, material or political support. The international community should intensify efforts to effectively combat these growing threats. He further said that we will intensify our fight against corruption.

Thakur also said that the G-20 countries have expressed concern over the illicit trade and misuse of small arms and light weapons. International cooperation between states is essential to combat these phenomena, including exports, import controls and monitoring.

He said that combating illicit international drug supply chains, including synthetic drugs, was critical to global health and security and required enhanced cooperation, including through existing relevant international legal instruments, to combat production, trafficking, demand and illicit profits from them. these dangerous substances. The spread of illicit drugs and chemical precursors should be stopped at the points of origin, transit and destination.

During the meeting, G20 members called for inclusive and strong international cooperation without unnecessary restrictions to this end, including capacity building and information sharing. He said G20 members have also created a common debt management framework to help countries in poor economic conditions.
