On Sunday, the Grammy Awards 2022 were held in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian-American musician Falguni Shah on her Grammy triumph. On Sunday, Falguni, who goes by the stage name “Falu,” received the Grammy for Best Children’s Music Album for her song “A Colourful World.” She is the only Indian-origin woman to be nominated twice for the Grammy Award for Best Children’s Music Album.
PM Modi posted on Twitter, tagging Falguni Shah, “Congratulations to Falguni Shah, who won the Grammy Award for Best Children’s Music Album. I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours. @FaluMusic (sic).”
“I have no words to convey today’s magic,” Falguni posted beside a photo of herself receiving the trophy on Instagram. What an honour it was to play for the GRAMMY Premier Ceremony’s opening number and then receive a statue on behalf of all the amazing folks who worked on A Colorful World. We are honoured and grateful to the Recording Academy for this honour. “MANY THANKS!”
“Who would have guessed that having my mum sing a traditional children’s lullaby from India would evoke a response from parents in America?” she asked in her victory speech.
Falguni, a New York-based artist, acquired her early musical instruction in Mumbai under Ustad Sultan Khan, the famed sarangi and voice teacher. In the year 2000, she relocated to the United States to join her Boston-based husband Gaurav Shah and the fusion band Karyshma on tour (Hindi for Miracle). In 2007, Shah published a self-titled solo album in the United States, which mixed traditional music from Southeast Asia with Western music. In the past, the Grammy winner collaborated with AR Rahman for the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire.’
