Elon Musk said Twitter’s coveted $8 blue-tick subscription service will relaunch with verification on Nov. 29

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said Twitter’s coveted $8 blue-tick subscription service will relaunch with verification on Nov. 29, days after the microblogging platform temporarily halted it following a proliferation of fake accounts.  Before Musk took control of Twitter on October 27, blue ticks were awarded to celebrities, government officials and other celebrities after their accounts were verified by the site’s platform. The $8 subscription fee was announced on November 6 as a measure to retain advertisers and generate revenue.

However, the move led to an increase in fraudulent accounts and forced Twitter to temporarily halt the service. “Rebooting Blue Verified on November 29th to make sure it’s rock solid,” Musk said in a tweet on Tuesday. With the new release, changing someone’s verified name will cause them to lose their blue check “until Twitter confirms that the name meets the terms of service,” Musk said. Last week, Musk hinted that he would relaunch the blue tick subscription service.

It’s been a chaotic three weeks for Musk since he secured a $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter. Since taking over, Musk has fired nearly half of the popular microblogging platform’s workforce, including its CEO Parag Agrawal, and even raised the specter of bankruptcy for the company.
