Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo on September 19, 2022. Shri Rajnath Singh, who is on an official visit to Egypt, was given a ceremonial guard of honor at the Ministry of Defense in Cairo. , even before the start of bilateral negotiations. During the meeting, the two sides discussed steps to strengthen defense ties and agreed to strengthen the conduct of joint exercises and personnel exchanges for training, especially in the area of ​​counterinsurgency.
The two ministers also agreed to identify proposals for expanding defense industry cooperation between India and Egypt in a time-bound manner. They also exchanged views on regional security and recognized the contribution of India and Egypt to world peace and stability. Both sides expressed delight at the increased defense deployment and exchanges over the past year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Raksha Mantri’s call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the two ministers agreed to consolidate and focus on strengthening the security and defense aspects of bilateral cooperation. A milestone of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding by both defense ministers on defense cooperation, which will pave the way for strengthening defense cooperation across all sectors of common interest.
Shri Rajnath Singh also invited his Egyptian counterpart to the India-Africa Defense Dialogue and IOR Defense Ministers’ Conclave to be held as part of the 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat between 18-22 October 2022. As part of his daily engagements, Raksha Mantri paid his respects at the Unknown Soldier Memorial and Tomb of late Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat in Cairo.
