National Focus: ED arrived at Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s house on Sunday morning in connection with the Patra Chawl scam case

An Enforcement Directorate official arrived at Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s house on Sunday morning in connection with the Patra Chawl scam case after the Shiv Sena MP twice skipped the agency’s summons citing the ongoing Parliament session and sought time till August 7. Sanjay Raut faced ED questioning on July 1 and said he would appear again if asked by the agency. He was summoned by the ED on July 20, which he missed due to the ongoing Parliament meeting. A new summons was issued on July 27, which he missed for the same reason. Sanjay Raut said that he is in Delhi and is attending the Parliament session.

The photographs showed CRPF personnel on the premises of Sanjay Raut’s residence early Sunday morning.Sanjay Raut took to Twitter and denied any connection with any scam and said he will not leave Shiv Sena. “Fake action. False evidence. I will not leave Shiv Sena. Even if I die, I won’t give up. Jai Maharashtra,” he tweeted.

The ED action comes a day after the alleged audio of Sanjay Raut allegedly abusing and threatening Swapna Patkar, a key witness in the case, went viral. HT has not verified the authenticity of the audio. Neither Raut nor the Shiv Sena reacted to the viral audio.

Swapna Patkar is a close aide of Sanjay Raut’s wife but she has turned against Raut in this case. Weeks before, Swapna Patkar’s statement was recorded by the ED and she allegedly submitted some documents that are against Sanjay Raut. In her statement, Swapna also informed that she has been receiving rape and death threats for her statements against Raut.

In April, ahead of the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, the ED provisionally attached properties worth over ₹ 11.15 crore of Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut and two of his associates. The attached properties are in the form of lands held by Pravin M. Raut, aide to Sanjay Raut and former director of Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited, at Palghar, Saphala (town in Palghar) and Padgha (in Thane district).
