The Ministry of Defense Center of Excellence – Satellite and Unmanned Remote Vehicles (CoE – SURVEI) sets the world’s first standard for drone land surveying has published a draft concept paper prescribing technical parameters that can serve as a reference standard for image estimation. drone survey output quality. In this regard, COE-SURVEI requested comments from stakeholders to establish uniform standards for evaluating the quality of drone imagery outputs for soil survey purposes.
Let us recall that currently there are no uniform parameters for evaluating images obtained by using drones for the purposes of surveying the territory. This presents a challenge in performing post-processing analysis on drone imagery output, limiting the ability to extract relevant information from drone data using AI & ML tools.
CoE – SURVEI, in conjunction with its knowledge partners, took the lead in developing draft standards for drone survey output and published the same for feedback and wider consultation with the drone community and other stakeholders. The draft standards prescribe 19 parameters for evaluating drone output quality and 8 extension metrics/techniques for image quality estimation, in addition to providing sample benchmarking from the literature.
