Donald Trump Urges Israel to Target Iran’s Nuclear Sites Amid Rising Tensions

Washington, D.C., October 6, 2024 – Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaking at a campaign event in North Carolina on Friday, advised Israel to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities in response to the recent missile barrage from the Islamic Republic. Trump’s comments came during a town hall-style event in Fayetteville, where he criticized President Joe Biden’s stance on the matter.
Referring to a question posed to Biden earlier this week, Trump expressed disagreement with the Democratic president’s opposition to targeting Iran’s nuclear sites. Biden, when asked whether he would support such strikes, had responded, “The answer is no,” asserting that Israel should retaliate proportionally and in consultation with G7 allies.

Donald Trump however called Biden’s response “wrong,” stating that nuclear facilities should be the primary target in any military action. “That’s the thing you want to hit, right? It’s the biggest risk we have nuclear weapons,” Trump emphasized, adding, “Hit the nuclear first, and worry about the rest later.”
Escalating Tensions and Missile Attacks
The former president’s remarks follow the recent escalation in the Middle East, with Iran firing nearly 200 missiles towards Israel. In the wake of the missile attacks, Biden reiterated his support for Israel’s right to respond but cautioned against excessive force, urging proportional measures to avoid further destabilization.

Despite the high-stakes nature of the situation, Trump has largely remained focused on his campaign for the 2024 presidential election, where he faces a tight race against Vice President Kamala Harris. He has nonetheless issued scathing remarks, holding the Biden-Harris administration responsible for the ongoing Middle East crisis, accusing them of weakening U.S. foreign policy.
Trump’s Foreign Policy Vision
Trump, who was president from 2017 to 2021, has often taken a more aggressive stance on Iran than his successor. During his time in office, he withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and reimposed sanctions on Tehran, further straining U.S.-Iran relations.
His latest comments underscore the sharp foreign policy differences between Trump and Biden. While Biden has focused on diplomatic solutions and multilateral cooperation, Trump has advocated a more unilateral and militaristic approach, particularly in relation to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
As tensions between Israel and Iran continue to simmer, Trump’s call for military action has sparked further debate over the future of U.S. involvement in the region and its role in supporting Israel’s security.

The Road Ahead
With the Middle East on the brink of further conflict, the issue of how to handle Iran’s nuclear program has become a central point of contention in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Both Trump and Biden have presented sharply contrasting strategies, with Trump favoring immediate and decisive military action, while Biden emphasizes diplomatic engagement and proportionality.
As the campaign heats up, the candidates’ positions on foreign policy, especially concerning Israel and Iran, are likely to influence voters and shape the international narrative in the months to come.
