Divya Agarwal, who will soon be featured in Abhay season 3, says she had to work extra hard to persuade people of her acting abilities because of her reality show experience.
Divya Agarwal has worked hard to make the transition from social media influencer to reality TV star. Fans have praised her participation in web series such as Raagini MMS: Returns 2 and Cartel. So it’s odd that she portrays a social media influencer in her upcoming show, Abhay. This one, though, has a black tinge about it. Divya plays Harleen, an influencer who also happens to be a serial murderer, in the third season of the programme. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Divya discusses her fear of portraying “herself” on the show.

The performer says she was happy to be a part of Abhay since it fulfilled all of her wishes. She goes on to say, “I was overjoyed when Abhay was presented to me. This is one of those undertakings in my life where everything seems to be coming together. Yes, there is a good co-actor, a good director, a strong platform, and a good main lead. This was the one package I had been anticipating my entire life.”
However, she discovered that the parallels between herself and Harleen made things tough for her, especially because the character had a dark side. “Whatever personas I’ve played in my life, they’ve all been extremely not-me,” Divya adds. Harleen, on the other hand, is somewhat like myself in this scene with Abhay’s character.Divya Agarwal’s nice side, which you see on social media as an influencer, is a carbon copy of her. She does, however, have a dark side. And what if people begin to believe Divya Agarwal has a sinister side? I just hope no one ever made a comparison between Divya and Harleen. If it happens, I’m going to throw bricks.” In reality, Divya found herself impossible to channel that inner darkness at times since she could strongly identify to half of the persona. “There are a few times throughout the play that it was difficult for me to pronounce my lines because I felt she was a part of me,” she says. “It hit me like a tonne of bricks,” she adds.
As she progressed from Splitsvilla to Bigg Boss OTT and now a web series, Divya saw that media and fan attention switched away from her personal life and toward her career on TV. She responds, “I find that refreshing,” when questioned whether she finds it refreshing “Yes, and I love to encourage people to do so. Work comes first for me. Because of my current employment, I am who I am now. Call me a workaholic, but I enjoy it when you have a 4 a.m. flight, 12 hours of shooting, and another set the next day. It’s the drill and the excitement that I crave in my life. That is what keeps me going.”
However, coming from a reality show background, Divya found it difficult to persuade people that she could act. She recalls, “It was quite tough for me to persuade people that I wasn’t just doing reality programmes. I’m sure I’ll be able to pull it off. Fortunately, the stars aligned in such a manner that others began to believe it as well. The good news is that my name is well-known.”
Abhay’s third season will broadcast on Zee5 on April 8, 2022. KunalKemmu, Vijay Raaz, Asha Negi, Rahul Dev, Tanuj Virwani, VidyaMalavade, Nidhi Singh, and Divya feature in the series, which is directed by Ken Ghosh.
