Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy waterlogging and traffic jams :IMD

Parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy waterlogging and traffic jams due to continuous spell of light to moderate rain for the second consecutive day. According to the district administration, Gurugram received 54 mm of rainfall, while Wazirabad received a maximum of 60 mm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘yellow alert’ on Friday, warning people of light rain in most areas in the national capital region.

“Fresh cloud approaching Delhi leading to possibility of light to moderate rainfall at most places with occasional intense thundershowers at few places over Delhi and adjoining NCR during next 3-4 hours,” IMD said on Twitter late Thursday evening.

With the IMD predicting more rains in the region, authorities have ordered closure of schools in Noida and Gurugram for classes 1-8. Corporate and private institutions in Gurugram have also been advised to let their employees work from home in view of the waterlogging. Here are the main weather updates:

• The Met department has predicted light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh till September 25.

• East Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall on September 23, 25 and 26 with isolated heavy rainfall.

• In view of rain forecast for September 23-24, Aligarh District Magistrate has ordered closure of schools for two days.

• Fresh rains will help cover the large deficit to some extent (46 percent by the morning of September 22) and keep air pollution and temperature under control.

• The IMD on Tuesday reported that the Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from parts of Southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Kutch. It usually takes about a week after its withdrawal from western Rajasthan for the monsoon to recede from Delhi.
