Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday said the Bhalswa landfill symbolized the BJP’s “mountain of failure” during its 15-year rule in the city civic body. During an interaction with people in the Badli assembly segment ahead of the December 4 civic polls, a senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader claimed that the height of the landfill “has risen in tandem with BJP’s corruption in MCD”.
In a tongue-in-cheek joke, he asked people to click selfies with a pile of garbage while they still could, claiming it would disappear after AAP comes to power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The party had earlier this month announced “10 guarantees” for the MCD polls, the most important of which was to clean the Bhalswa, Okhla and Ghazipur landfills.
“Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is an engineer himself. He developed a complete plan to remove these mountains of garbage from Delhi. This time people will vote AAP to power in MCD as well. Immediately after coming to power in the civic body, work will begin to remove these mountains of garbage,” said Sisodia. At public meetings in Jahangirpuri, Swaroop Nagar, Samaypur Badli, Bakhtawarpur, Alipore and Narela, he accused the BJP of “crossing all bounds of corruption” in the last 15 years. He claimed that the party had failed miserably in its prime responsibility of cleaning up Delhi.
“The garbage mound at Bhalswa is a mountain of failure of BJP in last 15 years in MCD. But now the public needs to take a break and take a selfie with this garbage mountain because after December 7 Kejriwal government will come to MCD and after that not only Bhalswa’s but other garbage mountains will disappear from Delhi,” said Sisodia.
The AAP leader said that BJP national president JP Nadda had asked him in a public meeting to list two development works done during the AAP government in Delhi. “Neither Kejriwal nor I need to do anything like that. Nadda can go to any corner of the city and people will tell him about all the work done by CM Kejriwal. They will also tell him that BJP has not been able to do even a single job in MCD and has turned out to be a complete failure. “BJP’s fear of AAP continues to grow as Gujarat and MCD elections approach. Nadda should keep in mind the last two assembly elections in Delhi. People of Delhi have twice given Kejriwal a chance based on his good governance,” Sisodia said.
