In support of the Centre’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the Ministry of Defense on Thursday signed a contract worth Rs 1,700 crore with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for procurement of next-generation naval mobile shore batteries and BrahMos missiles.
Deliveries of these batteries are scheduled for 2027, the ministry said in a statement. The Ministry has signed a contract with BAPL for procurement of Next Generation (Long Range) Naval Mobile Shore Batteries and BrahMos Missiles at an approximate cost of over Rs 1,700 crore in the Buy (Ind) category.
“These systems will be equipped with BrahMos supersonic missiles and will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s multi-directional maritime strike capability,” the statement said.
BAPL is a joint venture between India and Russia that is making a major contribution to the development of the next-generation extended-range surface-to-surface missile.
“This contract will provide further support to the indigenous production of critical weapon systems and ammunition with the active participation of domestic industries. This project will generate employment of more than 90,000 man-days over four years. Majority of the equipment and subsystems sourced from domestic manufacturers, these systems will proudly bear the flag of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’,” the statement said.
