Technology Focus: Major initiative for the dissemination of CSIR technologies to create livelihood opportunities in rural areas

The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication & Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) have jointly launched a massive campaign to distribute CSIR technology to create livelihood opportunities in rural areas. In this context, CSIR-NIScPR, CSIR-IHBT, UBA and VIBHA jointly organized a ‘Technology Demonstration and Networking Meet’ for the upcoming 29-30 June 2022 at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur. The main objective of the Conference was to demonstrate and demonstrate the home technologies developed by CSIR-IHBT that can help create a livelihood for farmers and improve their income through business development opportunities. The meeting brought together scientists, researchers, researchers, Regional Liaison Centers (RCIs) and Participatory Centers (PIs) of UBA, SHGs, FPOs, and rural communities together to discuss the opportunities and challenges in effective translation of those identified. technology.

Professor Ranjana Aggarwal, Director, CSIR-NIScPR set the agenda for the meeting by highlighting CSIR-NIScPR’s efforts to promote the demonstration and distribution of CSIR Technologies in partnership with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and VIBHA for the development of all rural communities in the country. He emphasized the importance of solving technology acquisition problems by arranging such a demonstration meeting. He highlighted the great reach of the CSIR with 37 laboratories and has contributed to the development of technology in almost all fields to help support the community in all areas of life. He informed that CSIR-NIScPR has established a bridge between institutions and the community through communication and policy research. He said the technology developed by CSIR-IHBT would help achieve the goals of creating a livelihood and income generation in rural areas, and prevent migration.

Drs. Sanjay Kumar, Director, CSIR-IHBT commended the efforts of CSIR-NIScPR, UBA and VIBHA in disseminating CSIR Technologies and closing the gap between R&D Laboratories and the public. He called for the development of technologies that should be able to meet the needs of the community and strengthen Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. He also commended researchers for solving social problems through scientific and technological interventions. He highlighted the technology developed in CSIR-IHBT as a fragrant marigold suitable for rural areas affected by wildlife. The success of the Roma and Floriculture Mission and the introduction of crops such as Heeng and Cinnamon were also emphasized in creating livelihood opportunities and reducing imports.

Professor Vivek Kumar, National Coordinator, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, IIT Delhi highlighted Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’s efforts to transform rural life through science and technology. He emphasized the importance of disseminating community development technology, reforming the education curriculum and research programs taking into account community needs and problems and the sustainability of regional resources. He also cited UBA’s efforts in forming 15 different teams of subject specialists and implementing 292 projects to solve community problems.

Drs. Yogesh Suman, Principal Principal, CSIR-NIScPR discussed the joint efforts of CSIR-NIScPR, UBA and VIBHA aimed at creating livelihood opportunities in rural areas. Drs. Suman highlighted established partnerships with various stakeholders such as the North Eastern Center for Technology Development and Outreach (NECTAR), the Foundation for Integrated Support and Solution (FISS), North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi), the North East Regional Ministry of Development, and the National Bank Of Agricultural Development and Rural Development (NABARD) and other Indian Government Institutions. He provided a brief overview of the events jointly organized by CSIR-NIScPR, UBA, VIBHA and NECTAR for the exhibition of CSIR Technologies for the benefit of the participants. He highlighted the challenges that farmers and entrepreneurs face in setting up resources to adopt CSIR technology such as financial generation and market access etc.

Prof. A.M. Rawani, Director, NIT Raipur presented the vision of UBA-RCIs to accelerate rural livelihoods through Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. He emphasized the importance of educational institutions in identifying regional problems and finding solutions to them. He also highlighted the success of programs such as Orientation, Sahyog Club and Rural Development to support the infrastructure developed by NIT Raipur.

At the event, Chief Guest Dr. Shashi K. Dhiman, Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh Technical University said Unnat Bharat Abhiyan was named ‘Hind Swaraj’ 100 years ago for the benefit of the people living in the valleys. He emphasized that the technology should be community-based and used for the benefit of the community. Drs. Dhiman emphasized the importance and importance of organic farming as organic farming pollutes the soil, water, air and human health. He emphasized the need for technical intervention to better manage water and soil. He expected that all R&D institutions, educational institutions, and industries should come together to solve community problems. Drs. Dhiman commended CSIR-IHBT’s efforts for technology development and its transfer for community development. In the second phase of the conference CSIR-IHBT exhibited and demonstrated 43 Techniques such as Vitamin D2-Enhanced Shiitake Mushrooms, Ready to Eat Fruits and Vegetables, Ready-to-Drink Tea, Tea-Based Wine, Tea Cloves, Tea Vinegar, Tea , agro and processing technology related to aromatic, floriculture and essential plants in industries such as Heeng, Cinnamon, and Saffron.
