Terrifying crash caught on camera were a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra

Two World War II-era planes were reduced to smithereens when they collided mid-air at the Dallas Air Show on Saturday. The planes involved in the terrifying crash caught on camera were a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra. The entire incident was caught on camera as the planes were part of an airshow. Officials have not confirmed casualties, but reports say at least six people were on board and all are feared dead.

The air show was filled with terror as eyewitnesses could not believe what was happening before their eyes. “I just stood there. I was in complete shock and disbelief,” said Montoya, 27, who attended the air show with a friend. “Everyone around was gasping. Everyone was crying. Everyone was in shock.” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said the videos of the crash are heartbreaking. The National Transportation Safety Board took control of the crash scene with local police and firefighters providing support, the mayor said.

The moment two planes crashed: Here’s how it happened

All the airshow videos capture the shock and horror of the audience who screamed as the Kingcobra crashed into the B-17.A Kingcobra coming in from the other direction crashed into the B-17, releasing a huge ball of fire and smoke. The Kingcobra is an American fighter aircraft and was used mainly by Soviet forces during the war. The B-17 is a four-engine bomber used in raids against Germany during World War II. According to experts, it is rare to have any of the aircraft in flying condition.

Most B-17s were scrapped after the war and can only be seen in museums and air shows. According to eyewitnesses, several planes were flying at the same time. A narrator described the significance of the planes and patriotic music played in the background, a lawyer who went to the event with his 12-year-old daughter told the New York Times. The B-17 was seen flying really low, eyewitnesses said, because they didn’t understand what was happening until then. Then a wing ripped off the B-17 and the fuselage fell to the ground, followed by a huge fireball.
